We use computer controlled lap timing, very similar to what is used in Formula1 and other motorsport – only a lot smaller! Each car requires a small gadget inside called a transponder that has a unique ID number, that when it crosses the start/finish line it times your laps to 0.01seconds!
There are 2 different lap timing loops installed on our track, one at the end of the straight and one just before the hill leading up to the table-top. Lap timing only works at official race or practice sessions as we do not leave any equipment at the track.

If you already have a transponder, please refer to the chart that shows which transponders are compatible with Glasgow’s RC3 timing system.
If you need to purchase a transponder the following information will be useful so you can make the right choice to work with Glasgow’s RC3 timing system and on all tracks further afield:-
MYLAPS ‘Harry’ (2 wire) – Work at virtually every UK track including Glasgow. They are more expensive than other options but you are guaranteed a unique number.
MRT PTX/mPTX/mPTX Pro – Work at virtually every UK track including Glasgow. They are much cheaper, but you don’t get a guaranteed unique number. These are most popular at Glasgow and usually available to purchase from the club trackside shop.
Purchase your own transponder here – https://atomfire.com/collections/transponders or direct from https://www.mrtdirect.com/
MYLAPS ‘Purcy’ (3 wire) – DON’T work at Glasgow, Ulverston, Durham, South Lakes, Southport, Telford and other clubs with RC2 or RC3 timing.
Borrow A Transponder
If you don’t have a transponder or you have a 3 wire transponder, Glasgow do have a small amount of loan transponders, that can be requested before a meeting and work with Glasgow’s RC3 timing system.
We don’t know of any UK clubs that have the latest v4.5 or newer firmware on their timing system. In some bigger events we may borrow another clubs RC4 decoder which will work with the majority of transponders. Any questions just ask!
Lap Timing Software
We use software called RC-Timing for practice sessions and race meetings.
For open practice sessions, the lap times are only recorded locally. At race meetings, structured practice, qualifying and final lap times and results are recorded and published online to https://results.glasgowrc.com/
