Outdoor Track Designs

Our outdoor track at Glasgow RC allows us to change the layout to keep things fresh. We like to change the track every month.

The following is a rough printable template for track designs, to scale (1 square is 1m), shows main features such as table top, timing loop/finish line, car drop area, track entrance, bombhole. The arrows show undulations and direction of flow.

*** We encourage you to download this track template and make your own track designs that we can use ***

Please remember these things :-

  • Track must cross the timing loop/finish line. This can be either at the end of the straight or as marked on the template.
  • The straight is 4m wide (4 squares) and generally shouldn’t change. The straight should be uninterrupted and at least 20m long (as BRCA rules for regionals and nationals)
  • The rest of the track should be 3m wide (3 squares) and 2.4m at pinch points
  • Make sure the track will have an unobstructed view from the drivers stand
  • Please think about marshal positions and how easy it would be to marshal each section.
  • Think about where marshals can stand, so they can be safe and cover all areas on the track and not obstruct a drivers view.
  • For smaller meetings with less racers, a smaller track option for a lap of around 15s to allow fewer marshals to cover the whole track.
  • For normal club racing aim for around 20s lap for the average racer, 18s for top drivers
  • For regionals aim for around 25s lap for the average racer, 21s minimum for top drivers
  • Ideally NO crossovers as these aren’t beginner friendly
  • We have several jump types that you can use on the template.

You can edit these templates online and then email your designs to info@glasgowrc.com or you can print them and hand them in.

Indoor Track Designs

Do you want to design a track for the MicroB racing that we run indoors mostly at our Wednesday Night Socials?

MicroB Track

You can use the online track designer at  https://playrc.app/track

Select ‘New Track’ as shown in the image below and change it to 18 columns and 16 rows to get the correct track area. The useable track area is approximately 9m x 8m and each square represents 0.5m. We suggest the track lanes are 1.5m wide (3 squares) in the design.

Once you have made a design, please save it and email your designs to info@glasgowrc.com or you can print them and hand them in.
